Senior Safety Specialist

Ground Level is seeking a Senior Safety Specialist to join our team. The desired candidate will manage a safety program that covers multiple departments and employs the safety standards of our governing agencies and customers. In this role the Safety Specialist will be our primary point of contact for their assigned customer group and will be responsible for representing the Ground Level team in a positive and professional manner. This role requires strong organizational skills, short term and long-term planning capabilities, the ability to adjust and adapt to changing priorities, and strong leadership and communication skills. A successful manager will be able to work as part of the management team to best utilize shared resources through solid planning and clear communication.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage all safety records and documentation
    • Trainings, Certifications, Man Hours, PPE, Etc.
    • Track expiration & schedule re-certifications
  • Lead a Safety Program focused on Success
    • Strong focus on an injury and incident free workplace
    • Develop new training materials based on current needs
    • Conduct training sessions as needed to meet staff needs
    • Monitor ISN and maintain requirements
    • Lead and conduct field audits
    • Review PPE inventory and needs with Field Asset Management Specialist
  • Submittal of pertinent data
    • MSHA, OSHA, ISN, and customer required submittals
    • Depending on institution, submittals may be monthly, quarterly or annually
  • Support the GLI Team
    • Communicate safety incidents and needs
      • From field staff to management
      • From GLI to customers
      • From GLI to governing agencies
    • Lead incident response
      • Coordinate timely response for field incidents
      • Assist in appropriate documentation
    • Maintenance of a positive attitude

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of MSHA and OSHA guidelines
  • Five or more years’ experience in the mining industry
  • One or more years’ experience in Safety Leadership
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to navigate digital safety programs
  • Comfortable and effective in leading training efforts
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Ability to work extended hours or out of town based on company needs
  • Strong attention to detail, planning, and prioritization
  • Ability to work with Management Team to meet organizational needs
  • Ability to support Field Team in maintaining a safe and injury free workplace
  • Willingness to develop strong customer relationships
  • The ability to work fifty hours a week or more depending on workload
  • The ability to work outdoors in potentially adverse conditions
  • The ability to work with multiple departments across the company
  • The desire for team success

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSHA certified instructor
  • Familiar with MSHA, OSHA, and ISN data submittal and recordkeeping
  • In depth knowledge of safety program development and maintenance
  • Experience with Site Docs data entry and workflow development
  • Bi-Lingual
